Cotton placemats
100% cotton, built double-layer with a printed face and a natural back. Enough weight to stay put, enough give to fold into a drawer.
Frequently asked questions
What does double-layer mean?
Two layers of cotton sewn together rather than a single printed sheet. That gives the mat enough body to lie flat instead of curling at the corners, and a natural undyed back that will not mark a polished table.
Cotton versus vinyl or cork placemats?
Cotton goes in the washing machine, which vinyl, cork and rattan do not. It also folds into a drawer rather than needing to be stacked. The trade is heat: a cotton mat will not protect a table from a hot dish the way a cork one does.
Do they need ironing?
Only if they have been stored folded for a long time. Steam or iron on low; do not tumble dry, which is what sets creases into cotton in the first place.
