Botanical

Vegetables treated the way a botanical illustrator would treat them: an artichoke opened to show the choke, an eggplant with the calyx still attached, a pomegranate split. In watercolor, printed at a scale that lets the detail survive.

The quietest of the collections in terms of color, which makes it the easiest to put on a table that already has a lot going on.

Why choose the botanical designs over the brighter lines?

Color restraint. These are watercolor studies rather than statements, which makes them the easiest to put on a table that already has patterned crockery, a strong tablecloth or a lot of glassware.

Does the detail survive on a small napkin?

Yes — the illustrations are printed at a scale that stays legible on a 10″ cocktail napkin as well as on a 90″ runner. Nothing depends on one large central image.

Does the pomegranate design work for autumn?

It does. Pomegranate, artichoke and fig sit naturally in an autumn table without any of the usual harvest iconography.
